International ranking of professions

Did you know that according to U.S. News, the best tech jobs of 2025 include:

The high demand for statisticians and data analysts is causing a steady increase in the need to collect and evaluate huge amounts of data. Opportunities for professionals trained in these fields are enormous!

Master the highly intellectual professions of the 21st century – actuarial, statistical or mathematical – with us!

Why statistics
and
why at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of KNU?

Every day and every minute, our world produces terabytes of data. The obvious constant growth in the need to collect and evaluate such huge amounts of information creates a high demand for specialists in data processing, analysis, and protection. Therefore, it is not surprising that for many recent years in a row, according to international rankings, the top 10 best professions of the year include professions that require the highest level of training in mathematics and statistics.

That is why our graduates can easily find a job where there is a need for data-driven decision-making, because they combine their knowledge of modern methods of computer information processing with a good knowledge of the theoretical foundations of mathematics. They are able not only to identify hidden patterns in existing data sets, but also to reasonably put forward and test hypotheses about the phenomena under study, build a mathematical model, predict its further development, and help customers make decisions.

Graduates of Statistics program can become business analysts, data analysts, risk analysts, actuaries, or work at the intersection of sciences and be economists, geneticists, and even environmental scientists. Statistical ideas, tools, and methods are used in almost all areas of employment, and therefore statistical professionals can often be found in banking and finance, medicine and pharmaceuticals, market research, sociology, insurance, programming, and various fintech startups.

Students enrolled in the Statistics program at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv attend lectures on all basic mathematical disciplines from leading Ukrainian mathematical scientists, master programming under the supervision of practitioners from top IT companies, and learn to analyze data, by studying such subjects as Computer Statistics, Statistical Analysis of Dependencies, Methods of Economic Computing, Financial Analysis, Mathematical Foundations of Insurance, Machine Learning, and other applied disciplines in data analysis and risk research using insurance and financial mathematics.

In the third year, our students undergo an internship in banking, insurance or IT companies, where they gain practical skills in programming, data processing and analysis. The best students also take advantage of numerous academic mobility opportunities and get the chance to study at the best European universities.

We are pleased to invite applicants to study for the specialty “Statistics”!
